Scottish Women’s Premier League League leaders Celtic proved too strong for a spirited Inverness side last weekend. The Glasgow side started brightly and their slick skilful play saw them create several chances but the brave home defence held firm until the 29th minute when Celtic scored. It was 2-0 seven minutes later, however Inverness pulled a goal back on 40mins when Leanne Calder beat the keeper with a spectacular drive from the edge of the box. Calder brought out two excellent saves from the Celtic keeper either side of half time before a defensive error put the Glasgow side 3-1 up. Lisa Mackenzie’s bullet header was brilliantly saved as Inverness fought furiously to get back into the game however Celtic upped the pace in the closing stages and netted a further three times. Inverness can take credit from their first half performance which saw them compete in every area against a team that fielded several Scottish internationalists. Team Kim Jappy, Sarah Main, Karen Mason, Megan McCarthy, Molly Alexander (Claire McCarthy 65mins), Laura McLeod, Finella Annand, Lisa Mackenzie (Kirsty Deans 78mins), Finella Annand, Lorraine Cadden, Natalie Bodiam (Natalie Bodiam 65mins), Leanne Calder (Denise Mackenzie 78 mins).
