Scottish League Division 1 Inverness Ladies were left heartbroken when Rangers netted an injury time winner after a ding dong encounter in Glasgow last weekend. The Highland capital side more than matched the pre season title favourites for long spells and were themselves looking more likely to score the winner when the Glasgow side struck. Rangers started brightly and struck the crossbar twice in the opening minute before Inverness weathered the storm and started to make chances of their own. However Rangers took the lead on 32mins when they scored after a fine move. The remainder of the half was a pretty even affair with no further scoring. Rangers doubled their lead on 46 minutes when they caught the visiting defence sleeping but Inverness upped the pace and piled on the pressure before Julia Scott reduced the deficit on 66 minutes. The Highland side were now dominant and the deserved equaliser came on 81 mins when Lisa Mackenzie beat the keeper with a spectacular 30 yard lob. The Rangers goal was now under siege and Natalie Bodiam and Leanne Calder both came close before Rangers netted the winner in the third minute of injury time to break the hearts of the brave Highland side. The Rangers fans applauded Inverness off the park at the end and if this level of performance can be maintained for the rest of the season then promotion to the Premier League could well be achieved. Team Kim Jappy, Sarah Main, Dawn Fraser, Karen Mason, Claire Mackay, Julia Scott, Lisa Glennie (Natalie Bodiam 65mins), Lisa Mackenzie, Rebecca Dempster (Claire Masterton 79mins), Lorraine Cadden, Leanne Calder. Unused: Nicola Ross. Fixture: 07-Sep-2008 |
