Scottish League Division 1 Inverness Ladies kept their promotion hopes alive when they inflicted a first defeat of the season on a very strong Dundee United side at the weekend. Both teams went on the attack from the kick off and the Highland side broke the deadlock on 14mins when a perfect cross field pass from Karen Mason saw Julia Scott beat the offside trap and score with a well placed shot. Dundee Utd equalised within a minute when the Inverness defence failed to clear their lines and the Dundee striker scored with a fine header. The game was being played at a breathtaking pace and Inverness regained the lead on 29mins when Sarah Main scored with a spectacular 25yard free kick which flew into the far corner of the net and they were very unlucky minutes later when Leanne Calder saw her 20 yard rocket disallowed for an infringement. The second half saw little let up in the pace of the game and Inverness increased their lead on the hour mark when Denise Mackenzie burst through to make it 3-1 before Dundee Utd scored direct from a corner kick with 20mins remaining. Goalkeeper Kim Jappy then produced a wonderful save with 5mins remaining as Inverness held out for what could prove to be a very crucial victory.
