Scottish Women’s Premier League

Inverness City recorded their first win of the season with a narrow victory over Falkirk in atrocious conditions. Heavy rain and a blustery wind made it very difficult for both sides but to their credit they served up an entertaining game. Falkirk struck the crossbar early on before City took the lead on 20mins. Lorraine Cadden's perfectly flighted cross was bulleted home by the head of Natalie Bodiam. Lisa Mckenzie and Bodiam both came close to doubling the lead but there was no further scoring in the first half.

With the wind behind them Falkirk piled on the pressure in the second half and again stuck the crossbar before Mckenzie missed a chance to double the lead. With 12 mins remaining City’s captain Finella Annand burst through to make it 2-0 before Falkirk Netted a consolation goal on 87mins.

Things got worse for the visitors when Leanne Calder had to leave the field with a knee injury and the home side added a third goal on 17 mins. Goalkeeper Kim Jappy then pulled a muscle in her arm but bravely refused to leave the field. Inverness fought bravely and prevented Glasgow adding to their lead in the remainder of the first half.

The home team completely dominated the second half and scored at regular intervals to run out comfortable winners.

Scottish Women’s Premier League

Inverness fought back to secure a well earned point against Hamilton in an entertaining clash.

The home side suffered a setback when they lost fullback Beth Macdonald with ligament damage to her knee and Hamilton took the lead before the substitution could take place. Becky Dingwall came close to an equaliser on the half hour mark before Natalie Bodiam burst clear of the visiting defence to level the scores on 35 mins.

The second half saw Hamilton mainly on the attack with Kim Jappy producing a couple of fine saves as the home defence stood firm. Finella Annand burst forward late on and set up Lisa Mackenzie but the home defence cleared the danger as both sides settled for a point.

Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup Q-Final

Inverness came agonisingly close to causing an upset before Spartans netted a late winner in this entertaining cup tie.

City made all the early running and Natalie Bodiam and Finella Annand both came close before Karen Mason fired them into a 14th minute lead. Spartans equalised on 22 mins with their first effort on goal. Inverness continued to make the running and Bodiams pace was causing the Spartans defence all sorts of problems and she was pulled down in the box in first half stoppage time. However the Spartans keeper made a fine save from Mason’s well stuck spot kick.

City again looked the brighter side in the second half but injuries to key players Karen Mason and Kirsty Deans saw them having to play the last 25 mins with 10 players and Spartans snatched what proved to be the winner with 5 mins remaining..

Team

Kim Jappy, Sarah Main, Karen Mason, Megan McCarthy, Zoe Johnstone, Kirsty Deans (Lisa Mackenzie 50mins), Finella Annand, Lorraine Cadden, Natalie Bodiam, Becky Dingwall (Hannah Gordon 63mins)
